The fountain sculpture by Emil Cimiotti (born in 1927 in Göttingen) was installed after construction work on the Kröpcke station was completed and Ständehausstraße was subsequently redesigned. It occupies a modest space at a table height unusual for a fountain—a purpose-free void in the overloaded flow of everyday life, whose playful design invites visitors to linger. The artist, considered a leading representative of German Informel, also used the fountain’s leaf motif at other locations. Through the illusion of the organic, the depicted plants seem, on the one hand, to be alive and growing, creating an artificial “green oasis” with a welcoming atmosphere. On the other hand, through their artificial stillness, they tie in with the depiction of transience in other works by Cimiotti. » Location: Ständehausstraße/Karmarschstraße
